Wow… Can you say time
absolutely flies by way too fast when you have a baby to keep you occupied!!??
So much has happened since I
last had the time to update everyone on Ashleigh’s progress, so I am not really
sure where to start, but I’ll make sure I get as much in as I can.
First, she now weighs 19½
pounds and is somewhere around 2½ feet tall.
She’s still facing backwards in her car seat and probably will for quite
sometime. Even though with her clothes
on she tops the 20lb requirement for turning the car seat around, I have read
and been told 200 times over that baby’s are safer facing backwards, so for
now, until she gets a little older and really complains, she’ll stay
backwards.
She’s been walking like a
champ for some time now. I guess she
started walking just before she was 10 months old, so as she’s almost 13 months
old, she’s gotten in some good practice time.
She’s actually even starting to “run” a little. She gets going full steam ahead and then
realizes her head is going faster than her feet and she gets all jumbled
up. But, she’s working it out just
fine.
Teeth.. wow! She’s getting a mouth full. She had 4 (I think) the last time I updated
you all, well, now she has 9. She’s got
5 coming in now, 4 are molars and the other is her other front tooth. She seems to be doing ok with them and is
enjoying her new found capability of biting food.

Her ears. Well, for the first time in MONTHS, her
ears are doing great. She had tubes
put in both ears on the 11th of September (of all days). Surgery was quick and easy (not
necessarily for my mom, Neal’s mom, or I who all anxiously awaited the doctor
for those 7 or 8 minutes). But
Ashleigh came through no worse for the wear, just really grumpy for a few
hours. Since she had her tubes, she
has not gotten one single ear infection.
Thank God for that. BUT. Everything else went to the wayside. She came across some virus towards the end
of September that is just now finally letting go. She stopped drinking and wasn’t in the mood to eat much at
all. She ended up getting dehydrated
and we spent the better part of 3 hours a day for 3 days in the doctor’s
office hooked up to an IV for fluids and antibiotics. They left the IV site in for those 3 days
so they didn’t have to keep replacing it… it was REALLY sad to see her like
that. But, after her IV site was
cleared (just days before her birthday), she started drinking milk full
time. Her doctor said don’t even
worry about going back to formula if she tolerates milk fine, which she did,
so she started on whole milk about 10 days before she turned 1. |

Site |
After she got over the
initial fever, watery stools, IVs, etc., she felt better, but not good. She had one heck of a cough and a lot of thick
nasal mucus that was getting in her way.
They did chest X-rays (she stood up for them all by herself) and blood
work, but everything came back normal.
Then they thought it might be allergies, so we switched to some allergy
medicine and kept on the RX cough meds.
That didn’t do it either. They
did more chest X-rays about 10 days ago, just to make sure nothing had gone
into her lungs and again, they read normal.
Then there was the RSV test.
Normal. Now they’re verging on
diagnosing her with asthma since she has such trouble some time. Not sure that’s what it is, but she is still
being treated with the Albuterol (now syrup instead of nebs) and
Pulmicort. On Friday of last week, they
went ahead and put her back on antibiotics just to see if that would make a
difference since nothing else did.
Well, what a shock, my medicine-loving girl is feeling a lot
better. Her cough has diminished
greatly and she’s sleeping and eating really well again. So!!
We’re on the mend again.
Needless to say, since this bout with “sicky yucky” stuff lasted for the
past 5 weeks; you can see where my time has gone! BUT!! Not one ear
infection – they’ve stayed nice and healthy!
A lot of my time in
September was also spent on getting ready for Ashleigh’s first birthday
party. I won’t go into any detail here,
because I am going to create a page just for her birthday since it was such a
momentous occasion.

Halloween 2002
Let’s see. Halloween is tomorrow and while she’s not going
trick or treating (primarily because she can’t eat the candy and I DON'T need
it!), she had a Halloween party at daycare on Monday. She was a Redskinette, complete with
pom-poms and all! I must say she
looked absolutely adorable. I was a
proud Mom. Her Nana (my mom) bought
her the outfit for her birthday, because everyone in the family, including
Nealy, likes the Redskins. But since
I knew Ashleigh was not going around this year and since we had no clue about
the sniper situation, I just decided that it would be best (and easiest, which
is always important). |

Ashleigh as a Redskinette… Pretty Adorable Huh? |
She can say quite a few words
now… Mommy, Daddy, hi, baby, Pop (for Pop Pop) and gets really close to saying
Pooh, cat, and bye. She recognizes most
words that I say quite often, like give Mommy, phone, light, ship (we have a painting in the LR), fan, bottle, paci, cat, Pooh, upstairs, come here and lots of others too. She's even started nodding her head yes when I say things like want to take a nap?, want to take a bath?, want a drink?, want to go night night?, and sadly even when I say, want medicine?
Well, I think that is
really all of the major stuff that is going on right now… I’ve included some other pictures that I
just thought were just too cute not to share.

Ashleigh must have enough toys for 3 or
4 kids (as is evident by just a few of them in the background),

OK… well, that’s it for
now. I promise to try not to let it be
so long between updates or at least putting new pictures out.
Take care for now and may
God bless you and your families!
