| Neal at His Second Home... The Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina |
| Neal's uncle has a place in the OBX. He'd been there a few times before we started going together. My parents have two homes there, their primary home sits on a golf course, and has over 1,000 square feet of decking that looks at the ocean. When I first took Neal down there, it was the first time he'd been there in over 10 years. He was like a little kid who just got a new toy. I don't think I'd seen him happier on any road trip that we'd taken yet. Neal had tried to get off the day he died, because we had a trip planned to go to the OBX to visit with our parents. He couldn't get Friday off, so we were going to leave at 6:30 Saturday morning because Neal and Gary (his father-in-law) had tee-times on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Neal was so looking forward to making that trip, so much so he was even going to clean out his car so he could sleep in the back while I drove down Saturday morning. (And if you knew Neal....You know that was an impossible task to get him to agree to. Mom threatened to pull his tee-times because he'd be too tired to swing. That was all that was needed ... Neal would do just about anything to Golf!! and even sacrifice driving to do it in the OBX.... Sadly, he never got to make that trip. My parents had even stocked up on Gatorade, Squirt, and Paisano Wine... for his on and off the course drinking pleasure...and Granny Smith Apples for his apple crisp. He'd have been thrilled to know that :-)
