The Story of
Neal Sherman's Too-Short Life

Page 4

October 13th, 2000... We were in Winchester for family support in a court issue and he, out of the blue decides he wants to get our marriage license.  Knowing their only good for 60 days... I questioned him.  He said... you never know.  OK.  So we got our marriage license.  On the 15th, we decided we were getting married on the 21st (in 6 days!!)

And so we did!!  :-)   The 21st was always VERY important to us... and it just worked that we could pull it off. (See Wedding link)  We then decided were were going to reaffirm our vows 6 months later on our original wedding date so all the family could be there (sadly, that never happens).
Neal and I went through our first (and now only) winter holidays as husband and wife floating on cloud 9.  We had all our first holidays at home ... and we hosted Christmas dinner for my family at our home.  Nealy cooked and did a DARN good job at that!!

Apparently, we did pretty good during the holidays, because we conceived our first and now only child on December 30th.  And wouldn't you know, the way we planned, we had picked out names a year before!  (At least I know his child will have a name he wanted)

We found out when Neal took me to the doctors for an X-ray.  They said, well could you be?, and Neal and I looked at each other, smiled, and said ... we could be!!  Damn if that boy didn't get everything right the first time, because we sure were!!  No X-rays for Cyndi....    :- Which was bad because my wrist really hurt!!!  (see Baby page for more info on the baby)
We were just TOO excited ... Neal took a copy of the first sonogram picture down to his new work, Loudoun-Fairfax Ambulance Service and to duty one Friday night as the fire department.  He came home and told me the guys said it was just a "blip," and promptly responded "But it is my blip!"  The "blip" is between the red hearts  ... Never mind that he was sharing off my uterus with everyone... but he was a dad and he was psyched!!!
He never missed an appointment... all the way through the middle of March. (There had been 3 and a class.)  We went baby shopping together...started decorating the nursery... you name it.  Even though at the time, we were only 8 weeks pregnant.

We had our next appointment scheduled on March 14th.  Our doctor was sick, so we had to reschedule for the next week.  Who knew his life would end before that appointment?
