The Story of
Neal Sherman's
Too-Short Life

Neal was born in Alexandria, Virginia on February 25, 1976.  He lived in Alexandria and attended St. Mary's Catholic School in the early and mid 1980s.

Neal's Story --- Page 2

He moved to South Dakota in the late 1980's, where as a happy-go-lucky teenager, served as a member of the Air Force Junior ROTC Program.  As a highly decorated Captain, in part because of his dedication to serving the community, he left the program in the early 1990's to come back to Virginia with Rose, his mom; Randy, his step-dad; Heather, his sister; and Joey, his half-brother.

Since he chose not to go to VMI, after
high school, Neal moved to Winchester to live with his father, Bill, a former Virginia State Trooper.  While living in Winchester, Neal helped his dad with his catering business.  Neal was already interested in helping people and took it to the next level in Winchester, where he began exploring his firefighter and EMS skills as a volunteer for Tower 2 Fire Department.

(*Neal and I often thanked God for that choice,
for we knew that had he gone, we probably never would have met).

His family moved to Burke, where Neal graduated from Lake Braddock High School in 1994.

Neal was accepted to the Virginia Military Institute with honors, but decided the military was not the right choice for him.*

Neal was also an altar boy at
St. Mary's Catholic Church.*
